Tagum global medical center
It all started with a dream. A dream of building a hospital… initiated. and managed by the local doctors in Tagum City. Dr. Mae Teano-Dalisay, a Pediatrician from Tagum City, envisioned that big dream during a serendipitous encounter with Dr. La Rhaine G. Viernes on board a flight to Thailand for a Pediatrics Conference last May 15, 2017. Dr. La Rhaine, also a Pediatrician from Tacloban City, shared that affluent families and religious organizations customarily ran most of the hospitals in the Philippines. She further commented, “During the last decade, doctors go beyond the four corners of their clinics. They are also actively engaged in the management of a health care business”. Thus, this transformation translates into more “patient-focused” interventions and improved “patient-centered” care. That momentous encounter has etched the shape of a dream and unearthed the historical events in crafting the Allied Care Experts (ACE)-Tagum Global Medical Center. After hard days of repeated communication and persistent prayers. Dr. La Rhaine and Dr. Mae had finally decided to push through in chasing this big dream. Dr. Mae has envisioned to provide quality and affordable healthcare services in a state-of -the-art health facility. ACE Tagum Global Medical Center will be the leading referral hospital in Davao Del Norte and its nearby Provinces. Just like any other ACE Hospital in the Philippines. ACE-Tagum Global Center had birth pangs during its initiation stage. Overcoming the first hurdle was not secure when a group of thirty doctors practicing in Tagum City is needed to establish the local founders of the hospital. The biggest challenge was to invite fellow physicians and engage them in the making of a hospital owned and managed by themselves. Few cynical doctors were hesitant, while some became partial to the invitation. Common concerns range from the cost of construction and equipment, to availability of a proposed construction site. Through her pain-staking dedication and commitment to chase the big dream, Dr. Mae was unrelenting in campaigning and recruiting the founders of the hospital. Looking for the prospective building site was the next assigned challenging task. Tagum City is a first-class city and is susceptible to pricey commercial land properties for sale. The local founders had to conform with specific requirements in selecting the future building site that is convenient, accessible, affordable, and has the potential for future expansion. The group has unanimously chosen the 5,000 square meters lot close to the busy commercial area at Purok Café, National Highway, Visayan Village, Tagum City. Initial negotiations transpired with Dr. Emmanuel and Flora Bacani, the owners of the lot until both parties settled for an agreement and facilitated the immediate processing of the land title transfer. Dr. Amado Manuel C. Enriquez Jr., together with Dr. Fernando Carlos, Dr. La Rhaine Viernes, and select founders from Metro Manila, Iloilo City, and Tacloban City had their first visit to the area during the First Founders Orientation Meeting in Tagum City last August 20, 2017. Dr. Enriquez, the founding Chairman of ACE Group of Hospitals, formally introduced the vision and objectives of the company. He further stated that the company’s business model of accepting doctors as part owners of the hospital is one of the strengths of the ACE Medical Center group. He further affirmed that at present, foundations, cooperatives, private corporations, or families usually own most hospitals in the country. As such, doctors function as professionals with little or no direct involvement of the hospital.
